The 6th Guham Memorial was held on the 5th of December 2012. Dr. Ram Manohar Reddy, Editor Economic and Political Weekly was invited to speak and he chose the topic "Hows india doing (2012)- revisiting Amartya Sen's 1982 essay".
In his lecture, he discussed various issues relating to the financial sector comparing the essay written by Dr. Amartya Sen in 1982 and its relevance today. He also mentioned different social issues that are an impact of the financial situation.
Traffic congestion, overcrowded roads, long queues of vehicles standing for their turn at signals and vehicular pollution have become cliché with any city and especially a metro city. There is a sharp increase in the number of people having respiratory issues due to increased vehicular pollution in cities. Why have traffic and vehicular pollution become such pressing issues in the city? Many reasons are pointed at- increasing number of vehicles, condition of old vehicles, lack of infrastructure, decreasing use of public transport, lack of monitoring etc.
