About CAG

Project description

We aim to undertake exploratory research on three related aspects with the aim to fill a gap in knowledge and its practical applications by communities. First, we will apply the water-energy-land nexus approach to thermal power plants. The nexus approach can guide decision-making about resource use and development, to minimise externalities and ensure true sustainability, and help climate change mitigation measures. Second, we will examine thermal power plant clusters to analyse cumulative impacts to develop conceptual and practical frameworks to understand and gather evidence of impacts that communities in the immediate vicinity of the thermal power plants can make use of to ascertain and quantify their impacts on water, air, health, livelihoods and land. Third, we will undertake an exercise to map and explain the sources of finance of energy in India. This could provide insights into macro-financing opportunities for energy investment, as well as inform communities’ advocacy for clean energy and safer environments.
