Chennai's repeated floods indicate that stop-gap arrangements like placing pumps and drains on different streets are inadequate. 'We need different departments to coordinate and work as a team', says S.Saroja, CAG, for long-term solutions.

A blanket ban on single-use plastics without creating an ecosystem to promote and support alternatives is not going to be successful. There should be a rethink on how we implement these bans and come up with innovative policy instruments.
