Informal Housing Thermal Comfort Project

CAG is partnering with cBalance Solutions Pvt. Ltd. to collaboratively enhance living conditions for inhabitants of informal settlements in Pulianthope, Chennai, by addressing their thermal comfort needs.

The Informal Housing Thermal Comfort Project aims to contribute to both climate crisis adaptation and mitigation by focusing on thermal comfort through active engagement with communities in informal settlements.

The project involves participatory design and co-creation of passive cooling retrofit solutions, with design support from local architecture and engineering academic institutions. This process is followed by pilot installations and performance testing of the implemented solutions.
Post-installation progress toward improved thermal comfort will be assessed through a combination of self-reported thermal comfort feedback and a real-time performance sensing network.
A digital mapping platform will be used to demonstrate performance metrics to stakeholders.

The initiative aims to enhance the thermal comfort of inhabitants in informal settlements by mitigating heat through the passive design of cool roof solutions.
