COP24, touted as the most important climate conference since the 2015 Paris meeting (COP21), was held in the coal mining city of Katowice, Poland from December 2 to 15, 2018. The event saw muted ambition by member nations to combat climate change and failure to divorce coal.

A perception survey by CAG that reveals the experiences of people living in the vicinity of Thoothukudi's industries with respect to the environmental degradation from air, water and soil pollution; and the subsequent harmful consequences on human health. The study also analyses residents' perceptions of the changes brought upon their lives by industrial development.
The concentration of chemical industries and thermal power plants in the industrial taluks of Thoothukudi district leads to a mixture of several contaminating sources. Based on a survey on wellbeing, and impacts on agriculture and water, we found an overall negative association between industrialisation and quality of life in the public mind.
