Electrifying Three-Wheelers: Understanding barriers to electric auto uptake among drivers in Chennai

Indian urban cities rank the lowest in air quality in the world and the transport sector is a major contributor to urban air pollution, being the third highest contributor to CO2 emissions with 90% of all transport emissions produced by road transport. This study examines the financial, operational, infrastructural, and perceptual barriers that influence auto-rickshaw drivers’ willingness to switch from conventional internal combustion engine (ICE) and CNG/LPG autos to electric autos (E-autos).
