In India, road crashes claim around 150,000 lives and disable at least 750,000 more each year. The World Day of Remembrance is dedicated to honouring the millions who have lost their lives or been injured on the world’s roads, along with their loved ones and all those affected. To mark this day, CAG organised road safety awareness events at colleges across 11 districts, aiming to raise awareness among students.
Citizen consumer and civic Action Group (CAG), Chennai, in association with the Consumer Rights Movement organised a capacity building workshop on the topics of Energy Efficiency, and Renewable Energy on October 07, 2024, in Namakkal District, Tamil Nadu. This workshop aimed to raise consumer awareness and help them participate in the clean energy transition, by empowering participants with essential knowledge. The workshop catered to consumer group representatives and members of the general public.
In observance of the World Day of Remembrance, the Citizen consumer and civic Action Group (CAG) and Tamil Nadu Consumer Protection & Environmental Research Centre (TNCPERC) organised a road safety awareness event at the Global College in Thiruvarur. With around 100 participants, the event focused on educating college students about safe driving practices, the importance of following traffic rules, and the consequences of reckless driving. The session concluded with students taking a pledge to prioritise road safety and protect lives on the road.
CAG and SINAM recently hosted a multi-stakeholder consultation on 'Hypertension Care and Control in Tiruvannamalai.' The event highlighted study findings on patients' experiences at primary health centers in the district. Key outcomes and potential improvements were discussed with health department officials, doctors, and civil society organisations to enhance hypertension treatment implementation.
'பொது போக்குவரத்தில் பாலின சமத்துவம்' என்ற சி.ஏ.ஜி'யின் ஆய்வறிக்கை தமிழ் நாடு அரசின் பெண்களுக்கான கட்டணமில்லா பொது போக்குவரத்து சேவையானது தனிநபர்கள் மற்றும் குடும்பங்களில் ஏற்படுத்திய தாக்கத்தை குறித்து ஆய்வு செய்தது.
சி.ஏ.ஜி சென்னை மற்றும் சினம் திருவண்ணாமலை இணைந்து, திருவண்ணாமலை மாவட்டத்தில் தண்டராம்பட்டு வட்டாரம் மற்றும் திருவண்ணாமலை வட்டாரம் உட்பட்ட ஆரம்ப சுகாதார நிலையங்களில் உயர் இரத்த அழுத்த நோய்க்கான சிகிச்சை முறைகள் மற்றும் மருத்துவ வசதிகளின் நிலையை கண்டறிய சிகிச்சை பெற்றுவரும் பொதுமக்களிடம் ஆய்வு மேற்கொண்டது. இதன் மூலம், நோயின் தீவிரத்தன்மையை எடுத்துக்காட்டி, விழிப்புணர்வு முகம் நடத்தப்பட்டது.
ஆரம்ப சுகாதார நிலையங்களில் தொற்றாத நோய்களின் சிகிச்சைக்கு கவனம் செலுத்தும் '75/25' என்ற இந்திய அரசின் சமீபத்திய முயற்சியின் தொடர்பாக, சி.ஏ.ஜி மற்றும் சினம் அமைப்புகள் இணைந்து திருவண்ணாமலையில் 'உயர் இரத்த அழுத்தம் - சைலண்ட் கில்லர்' குறித்த விழிப்புணர்வு அமர்வை நடத்தியது. ஆரம்ப சுகாதார நிலையங்களில் சிகிச்சை பெறும் கிராம மக்கள் கூட்டத்தில் கலந்து கொண்டு, உயர் இரத்த அழுத்தத்தின் தீவிரத்தையும், சிகிச்சையின் அவசியத்தையும் பற்றி தெரிந்துகொண்டனர்.
CAG in collaboration with TNCPERC, Thiruvarur conducted a workshop on "Strengthening Road Safety Decision Making" for members of the District Road Safety Committee on the 18th of July, 2022. Several eminent speakers shared their inputs on how translating MVAA 2019 provisions to on-ground action will help create safer roads. Sessions on leveraging the use of technology in road safety monitoring and enforcement; the need for a speed management policy at the state level and the global "safe systems" approach to road safety were well received by the DRSC members.
'How safe is recycled plastic?' CAG was part of the IPEN (International Pollutants Elimination Network) led study that looked at toxins in recycled plastic. CAG held a webinar to discuss the study findings, which was covered by the following media.
