Residents want the rules framed under the Apartment Ownership Act to take their interests into account

The recently notified Tamil Nadu Apartment Ownership Act 2022 permits re-development of buildings more than 30 years old with the assent of just two thirds of the apartment owners. Commenting on this Saroja, CAG, explains that the move could place vulnerable groups at risk, who might be unable to move out of the property for various reasons; and that decisions as important as this should consider every resident's unique needs and ability to comply.

An event to mark the World Day of Remembrance for road traffic victims was conducted yesterday by CAG, the Greater Chennai Traffic Police, and the Dr. Ambedkar Law University. The theme this year was justice, which discusses the need to highlight the various socio-economic fallouts of road crashes.

Manhole covers in city pose safety risk for motorists

Commenting on the safety risks from raised manhole covers, Sumana Narayanan, CAG, says the Indian Road Congress guidelines, if followed, would create safer road surfaces. Additionally, the Motor Vehicles Amendment Act, 2019, has penalty provisions for road contractors who do not keep safety guidelines. The legal framework needs to now translate into action on the ground.
