Dialogue on Consumer Protection Act

In this dialogue, Saroja S from CAG, will be in conversation with N L Rajah, Senior Advocate, Advisor - CAG, Pratima Narayan, Advocate and Mediator, and Sanjay Pinto, Advocate, Columnist, and Author. The CPA 2019 was brought into effect to address challenges faced by consumers in the new digital era by easing the process of filing complaints and strengthening the redressal mechanism. The Act aims to empower consumers by introducing new features including the establishment of the Central Consumer Protection Authority, new provisions for e-commerce, product liability, misleading advertisements, increase in pecuniary jurisdiction in District, State and National Commissions. Apart from discussing the features of the CPA 2019, this dialogue aims to chart the progress of CPA 1986 over the years, identify the gaps, and discuss solutions in conjunction with salient provisions of the new Act. The dialogue will include some of the key guidelines for e-commerce platforms or aggregators who will now be required to disclose the details of the sellers or service providers.
