How safe are our roads? Tamil Nadu ranks highest in India for road accidents, recording a staggering 67,213 crashes in 2023. We rank second in fatalities, with 18,347 lives lost. This includes 1,682 pedestrians who were simply walking to work, school, or home. (MoRTH 2023). These numbers clearly show that our roads are not safe. We must act urgently, especially to protect our children. By creating safe routes to schools with proper infrastructure for pedestrians and cyclists, we can safeguard young lives and other vulnerable road users.

Greenhouse gases are gases in the atmosphere that trap heat from the sun. This natural “greenhouse effect” keeps Earth warm enough for life.

The problem begins when human activities — like burning coal, oil, and gas, cutting forests, and running industries — add too much of these gases, especially carbon dioxide and methane. The heat-trapping blanket gets thicker, so more warmth stays on the planet instead of escaping into space.

An interactive nutrition session made healthy eating fun and practical for students. From balanced meals to smart label reading, they learned how to make better food choices every day. With confidence, students affirmed their commitment to making conscious and healthier choices.

Innovation meets impact at the CAG’s Road Safety Ideathon! 

46 teams from 20+ colleges across Tamil Nadu came together to design innovative, practical solutions for safer roads. The top 10 teams pitched their ideas to an expert jury on January 24, 2026, as part of National Road Safety Month. From smart tech to behaviour change, young innovators took on urgent challenges like speeding and unsafe driving, proving that the future of road safety starts here. 

Reimagining speed management with smart technology 

At CAG’s Road Safety Ideathon, the runner-up team 2 from School of Excellence in Law Chennai, presented SLOWTN - Smart Speed Ecosystem, a lightweight, non-intrusive system that uses GPS data and AI-based risk analytics to predict speeding and provide real-time warnings to drivers. A promising step towards safer behaviour and smarter enforcement on our roads.

Turning road safety into an engaging learning experience

The runner-up team 1 at the CAG’s Road Safety Ideathon were from the School of Excellence in Law, Chennai. They presented a gamified digital road safety platform that makes learning fun and impactful. Through interactive missions, real-life simulations, an AI chatbot for instant guidance, social media challenges, and emergency micro-learning, users earn safety points, certificates, and share achievements, creating a culture of continuous learning and safer behaviour on our roads.

Celebrating innovation for safer roads!

At CAG’s Road Safety Ideathon held during National Road Safety Month- January 2026, the winning team was from Government Law College, Dharmapuri. They presented us with practical, low-cost solutions to tackle speeding at accident hotspots. From optical speed bars and transverse rumble strips to tech-enabled enforcement using LiDAR and automated e-challans, their ideas combine engineering, technology, and behaviour change to save lives.
