We can’t talk about better public transport without talking about better access.
Right now, too many people in Chennai are forced to:
Walk on broken or missing footpaths
Cross unsafe roads without signals or zebra crossings
Wait under the harsh sun with no shade
It's inconvenient to even get to the bus stop
If we want more people to use buses, we need to make reaching the bus safe, comfortable, and dignified.
A shaded bus stop means nothing if:
There’s no continuous footpath leading to it
The footpath is encroached or uneven
It’s inaccessible for elderly people, children, or persons with disabilities.
Improving pedestrian infrastructure supports public transport as well. If it's easy for me to walk to a bus stop, I'll take the bus instead of my car or scooter!
