Low emission zones offer a great number of benefits that help to create a healthy neighbourhood. The reduction in greenhouse gas emissions help towards our Paris Agreement targets. Improving air quality has obvious public health benefits. Improving traffic flow reduces vehicular movement and congestion, which can create more connected communities. We found that in Tiruvannamalai, poor public transportation facilities influence patient accessibility to Primary Health Centres. Many rely on public transport. Inaccessible sites might force patients to use private transportation, for at least part of the journey. Providing free medical treatment and medications while patients incur substantial transportation costs is counterproductive.
