Tamil Nadu is feeling the impact of #ClimateChange in terms of increased instances of #HeatWave with every passing year. This year saw #Chennai break the all-time record of March by recording the hottest day ever wherein mercury hit the roof at 41.3 degrees Celsius.

As per UNICEF, nearly 1 billion children are at an extremely high risk of the impacts of #ClimateCrisis. If we don't #ActNow, the inequalities that children face will exacerbate & future generations will suffer from hunger, malnutrition & life-threatening illnesses. #ChildrensDay

The coastal areas of #TamilNadu are vulnerable to #SeaLevelRise due to #Climate change. This in turn causes shoreline erosion, cyclone surges, excessive precipitation, flooding and extreme events resulting in severe loss of human life, damaging ecosystems and property.

Nitrous oxide, Sulphur dioxide and fluorinated gasses are other #GreenhouseGases which also contribute to climate change. A conscious and drastic effort in reducing their emissions is vital in working towards a cleaner, greener, safer, and healthier society around the globe.

As per a joint assessment by Climate and Clean Air Coalition & United Nations Environment Programme, a 45 per cent reduction in #methane emissions would prevent 260 000 premature deaths, 775 000 asthma-related hospital visits, 73 billion hours of lost labour from extreme heat, & 25 million tonnes of crop losses annually.

#Carbondioxide is the most important of Earth’s long-lived greenhouse gases. Increases in atmospheric carbon dioxide are responsible for about two-thirds of the total energy imbalance that is causing Earth's temperature to rise leading to warming of the atmosphere, land and ocean.
