Do you know that a 1 kW rooftop solar PV system requires only about 100 ft2 or 10 m2 of unobstructed shadow free area on the rooftop? To determine the total space required, multiply the desired system capacity (in kW) by the space required per kW. For example, for a 3 kW system, the required roof space would be 3 kW x 100 ft2/kW, which equals 300 ft2.
