Consumer Awareness Programmes with Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI)

Citizen consumer and civic Action Group (CAG), is a registered Consumer Advisory Group with the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). In collaboration with TRAI, CAG will conduct consumer awareness sessions on telecom services across Tamil Nadu. These sessions aim to educate consumers on TRAI’s consumer-friendly regulations, grievance redressal mechanisms, and ways to report digital and cyber fraud. Focused at the block level, particularly in rural areas, the initiative seeks to build awareness at the grassroots. This year, CAG will conduct six such awareness meetings on behalf of TRAI in Tamil Nadu.

Awareness of telecom services is crucial in Tamil Nadu, where increasing mobile usage and rapid digital transition have left consumers vulnerable to digital fraud, poor service quality, hidden charges, and lack of awareness about their rights and grievance mechanisms. The state also faces growing cyber threats, evolving online scams, and a surge in spam calls—many leading to cybercrimes. The Tamil Nadu Cyber Crime Wing has issued warnings about the rising risk of such attacks.

In order to  educate consumers about these challenges, and the various consumer friendly regulations issued by the Regulator, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI),  is conducting consumer awareness programmes through the Consumer Advisory Groups. These initiatives are key to empowering consumers to stay informed, safe, and assertive in the digital space.
