To create a supportive and inclusive climate for GPT advocacy in India, Citizen consumer and civic Action Group (CAG) adopted a three-pronged strategy:

De-jargonising the GPT and Dissemination through Multilingual Content:
Recognising the technical nature of treaty language and the communication gap it creates, the project team developed engaging explainer videos that simplified the key aspects of the Global Plastics Treaty. These videos were produced in five regional languages to ensure accessibility and cultural relevance. The content included an overview of the treaty process, its significance in the global fight against plastic pollution and climate change, and how it impacts different communities in India.

Stakeholder Consultations in Four Regions:
CAG organised in-person regional focus group consultations in four geographically diverse cities in India. These consultations brought together a mix of stakeholders including conservancy workers, informal waste workers, MSMEs, RWAs and youth. The consultations served two purposes: (a) to disseminate simplified information about the GPT, and (b) to gather feedback on the priorities and red lines relevant to each group. The participatory nature of these discussions ensured that the perspectives of underrepresented communities were documented and considered in shaping future advocacy strategies.

Media Engagement through Training:
A dedicated workshop was conducted for journalism students and early career working journalists. The workshop focused on the interconnectedness of plastic pollution, climate change, and social justice, while also unpacking the intricacies of the GPT negotiations. It aimed to build the capacity of the press to report accurately and compellingly on the treaty process, with a view to catalysing informed public discourse.

• The project involves participatory design and co-creation of passive cooling retrofit solutions, with design support from local architecture and engineering academic institutions. This process is followed by pilot installations and performance testing of the implemented solutions.
• Post-installation progress toward improved thermal comfort will be assessed through a combination of self-reported thermal comfort feedback and a real-time performance sensing network. 
• A digital mapping platform will be used to demonstrate performance metrics to stakeholders.

The project adopts a four-pronged approach, targeting:

Rooftop Solar:
To increase rooftop solar uptake among both domestic and commercial consumers in Chennai city, the following activities are planned:

1. Engagement with key stakeholders like developers, banks, Resident Welfare Associations (RWA’s), Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Company Limited (TNPDCL), Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) etc.
2. Campaigns across Chennai city among citizens on solar rooftop systems.
3. Media and social media engagement around the subject in Chennai city.

MSME Decarbonisation: 
To develop exemplary clusters that demonstrate the decarbonization of MSMEs

1. Identify high-energy MSME clusters and conduct baseline studies.
2. Hold capacity-building workshops focused on finance and clean technology.
3. Develop a policy engagement framework to scale low-carbon practices.

Health Sector Energy Transition:
To provide successful pilots for an energy-efficient and decarbonised health sector

1. Conduct energy audits in major government hospitals and primary health centres.
2. Integrate renewable energy and energy efficiency measures into hospital infrastructure.
3. Build capacity on energy efficiency and decarbonisation with officials at hospitals.

Panchayat-Level Decentralised Energy : 
To create a roadmap to build energy efficiency and renewable energy at the Panchayat level

1. Collaborate with District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) and State Institute of Rural Development (SIRD), Government of TN to audit and transform into model Panchayats
2. Report release and engagement with key stakeholders.
3. Capacity building and engagement of elected representatives, officials and key influencers at panchayat level on energy efficiency and decentralization.
