A brief insight into why ecocide should be prosecuted as an international crime

The debate between ecology and development is never-ending and has spanned for centuries. For the development of any country, a slight compromise on the ecological front is an unwarranted side-effect. However, due consideration has to be given to determine the extent to which the ecological depletion of resources can be justified.

Climate Injustice 101 - the whys, whos and hows of it

Climate injustice is a topic that has started gaining momentum in the recent past,  thanks to climate activists. But what exactly is climate injustice? In order to get a basic idea about what it actually means, we need to start analysing retrospectively. For instance, what is climate change, who causes it, who gets hurt by it and so on and so forth.

Biodiversity loss -A threat to our very existence

There is something hopeful and inspirational about summer. It is that time of the year when nature is at its bountiful best with flowers blooming, birds singing, bees buzzing and the environment in general is more vibrant and colourful. However, climate change is threatening to take away from us everything that we have come to love.

"We are ravaging the very ecosystems that provide us with the food, water and resources we need to survive. The Earth is resilient, but she needs our help”

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres

Debunking the science behind “Net-Zero”

On World Earth Day, the 21st of April 2021, forty world leaders convened for a virtual climate summit. It was hosted by the President of the United States Joe Biden to address the global climate crisis and set a stage for the participating countries to announce their climate ambition and the actions they intend to take to reduce their emissions in order to achieve carbon neutrality or net-zero.

Carbon Accounting - too good to be true.

Since time immemorial, advertisements have misled humanity more often than not. Right from fairness creams which claim to magically transform a dusky complexioned girl into someone who has  flawless fair skin, to carbonated cool drinks which make the person drinking it perform impossible daredevil stunts, most advertisements have tricked the consumers into  believing in the concept of idealism by playing with their emotions. The same strategy holds good to a certain extent when it comes to carbon accounting.

CLIMATE CRISIS: A TICKING TIME BOMB

A recent project helped me gain a brief insight on the climate crisis that communities around us are facing. Until then, like most others, I was partly oblivious and in denial about this serious issue engulfing our earth. The more research I did, the more perturbed I got. I am unable to shake off this gory image of the ‘metaphorical Mother Earth’ in a hot spot. (Pun intended). In my imagination, our earth is literally being set ablaze and I must say that it is not a sight for the sore eyes.
