The most recent #roadsafety report by MoRTH shows that #pedestrians form 18.9% of those that were killed in #roadaccidents in 2021. This is an alarming figure & one that has risen steadily over the last few years (17.1% in 2019, and 17.8% in 2020). We need policies that actively discourage motorists & promote pedestrian safety. #NationalPedestrianDay is a time to remind ourselves of all the things we can do differently to make our roads safer for pedestrians.

If our aim is to create a sustainable, healthier and #SingaraChennai we need to be able to get around without resorting to using our private vehicles. But this needs the collective efforts of citizens, the government and companies. Today, we look at what the government must do to make this possible.

On average, we lost 426 lives EVERYDAY on our roads, in 2021. The statistic is not only frightening but also forces us to investigate in detail the causes of road crashes and amplify road safety measures. With the #RoadSafetyWeek2023 approaching, let us call on our government agencies and decision makers to proactively promote road safety.

We need to change, & we need to start somewhere. So today, why not say 'no' to the plastic cups in your local tea stall? Ask them for a glass or metal one & be the start of something new.
