National Safe Food Day - Oil becomes less safe each time it's reused

Author

Snacks that are fried in oil that's heated again and again are unsafe. Each reheating breaks the oil down, forming harmful compounds like trans fats and free radicals. These damage blood vessels, increase bad cholesterol, strain the liver, and raise the risk of heart disease. The food may taste the same, but the oil becomes less safe each time it’s reused. Good health is about avoiding foods prepared from reused cooking oil, limiting deep - fried foods and choosing fresher, home-cooked options whenever possible. Small, steady choices keep your body protected.

On this National Safe Food Day, we renew our calls for warning labels on processed foods to guide consumers towards healthy food choices. Processed foods are designed for maximising convenience for consumers, and profits for producers. They are not often designed prioritising health and human life. #FoodLabelsSaveLives

National Safe Food Day 2023

Author

Processed foods, combine fats, sugar and salt, in unique combinations that are not normally found in natural foods. This stimulates our food cravings, causing us to over-indulge in those foods. Scientists are still trying to understand why these foods trigger the brain's desire to want more; but we do know for certain that processed foods are one of the primary drivers behind our current epidemic of non-communicable diseases. This is why we're asking for warning labels in front of processed foods.
