Rethinking our streets
Use these resources as talking tools to promote and commit to sustainable streets. Streets facilitate movement, provide access to various facilities and also act as great public spaces - but only if they are designed for it. The recent increase in private motor vehicles and the decrease in the usage of public transportation have made our streets dangerous for large swathes of the public. These resources will help people and policy makers re-imagine our streetscape.

CAG wrote a letter to the Minster of Transport, Tamil Nadu appreciating the government's G.O for increasing the penalties for several violations as per the Motor Vehicles Amendment Act 2019.

Workshop on strengthening road safety decision-making in Tirunelveli
Tamil Nadu continues to hold its place as one of the top 5 states for road fatalities (Road Accidents in India, 2020). This is despite the consistent steps since 2017, taken by the state to improve road safety. Institutional changes, data-driven approaches, and improved law enforcement have only borne limited fruit. What then will work? How are countries around the world strengthening road safety? Are there lessons for Tamil Nadu from this?

An analysis of the e-com complaints received by CAG during 2021-22
Citizen consumer and civic Action Group (CAG), for the last 37 years, has been offering a free and voluntary consumer protection service. Consumers can write in or call with their grievances, which could be against services or goods bought by them. They will receive advice and support throughout the redressal process.
Free bus for women: a hit or miss?
In May 2021, the Tamil Nadu government launched a scheme that made public city and town buses (with certain caveats) free for women. While the rides are completely free (with no restrictions on the number of trips per day or month), the scheme is applicable only on ‘white board’ buses. The white board buses are what are known as Ordinary Bus Routes and represent the most inexpensive category of service that halts at all bus stops on a given route.
