Electricity Consumer Cells - An Analysis of Consumer Advisories (Phase 1)

CAG initiated Electricity Consumer Cells (ECCs) in December 2016 to create awareness, to advice, and educate consumers on the electricity sector of Tamil Nadu. The ECCs are situated in Cuddalore, Tiruvallur, and Tirunelveli. They are manned by electricity experts who advise consumers on electricity issues, create awareness through outreach meetings, and empower civil society organizations (CSOs) and electricity consumers through capacity building programmes. 

Electricity Consumer Cell (ECC) Outreach Meeting Report - Tiruvallur

ECC - Tiruvallur conducted outreach meetings in KK Nagar, Tirutani, Tiruvallur District, to promote ECC among the public on February 20, 2018. It was organized by Mr. M. Dhanraj (ECC Coordinator), and Mr. Nagarajan (ECC Volunteer). ECC handbills were distributed to the public in the villages of KK Nagar of Tirutani district to promote and create awareness on ECC. Mr. M. Dhanraj explained the functions and objectives of ECC and described the process of registering electricity complaints.

Electricity Consumer Cell (ECC) Outreach Meeting Report - Cuddalore

ECC - Cuddalore, conducted intensive outreach meetings to promote ECCs among the public at Killai, Cuddalore District, on February 21, 2018. It was organized by Mr. Ambikapathi (ECC Coordinator) and Mr.S. Balasubramaniyan (ECC Advisor). ECC handbills were distributed in Chidambaram villages of Cuddalore district to promote and create awareness about ECCs. Mr. R. Ambikapathi spoke about the functions of the electricity sector and examples of the problems faced by the people.

Capacity Building Programme on Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, Tirunelveli

The Electricity Consumer Cell (ECC), Tirunelveli, organized a capacity building programme on “Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy” on January 30, 2018, at Arulmegu Sri Selva Vinayagar Kovil, Kotha Nagar B colony, V.M. Chatram. The purpose of the programme was to build consumer awareness on energy conservation and to educate them about energy-efficient devices and renewable energy concepts at the household level.
