Motor vehicle riders are not the only road users; the humble pedestrian also has equal rights to it. In fact, at designated places such as pedestrian crossings, they have the right of way. Don't be led to believe that the speed and power a motor vehicle affords you, gives you extra rights over the road. It is as much a pedestrian's or a cyclist's as it is yours. #RoadSafety
Here's an illustration of two distinct neighbourhoods: in the current block model, all roads are prioritised for motor vehicles, leaving very little public space for pedestrians and cyclists. The super block concept prioritises pedestrians and restricts the few car owners to the grid's central roadways. As a result, superblocks offer additional recreational places and infrastructure for pedestrians. Remember that by making basic modifications to land use and implementing a few policies, we could transform our neighbourhoods into versatile, safe, and sustainable spaces.
Recycling will work only if we first adhere to the basic tenets of a zero waste economy - reduce and reuse. After we effectively practise these, (and for recycling to really work), we need to segregate our waste, so materials can reach their correct recycling facility. The ease of availability and scalability of AI (and search engines and Chat Bots that use it), algorithmic bias and content moderation prejudices have all introduced unique challenges to keeping consumers safe. Roundabouts are a safer and a more user-friendly alternative to traditional crossroads as they do not interrupt traffic flow. Traffic does not need to stop; simply yield, allowing the junction to handle more traffic in the same amount of time. Wait and allow people already in the roundabout to move out before entering in.
Road infrastructure is designed for men - bus step heights & duration of #pedestrian lights for example. Safety is a crucial missing link in road design. Pedestrian infrastructure like foot overbridges & subways tend to be dark, unwelcoming spaces that are unsafe for #women.
