Our bustling cities can also be a safe haven for our kids. But to ensure this, we need to actively plan for their safety. Integrating enforcement, engineering, and technology is one way to do this. ANPR cameras deter rule-breaking; vibrant paths and crosswalks guide children away from traffic; permanent speed-reducing features keep speed in check. Every child matters. No exceptions!

A child's small stature, and still-developing cognitive skills make them the most vulnerable of road users. As roads become busier, and vehicles become faster, our roads become more and more unsafe for them. As adults, let's be mindful of a child's challenges when navigating a road, and accommodate their needs. A child is prone to making errors of judgement - only vigilant motorists can ensure that these do not turn into fatal errors.

Here's some commonsense advice on how to stay safe when navigating around potholes on roads. Lurking under the surface water can be concealed potholes, new potholes and potholes that are deeper than you think they might be. Stay vigilant. Be safe.

Any road signage must be created and displayed as recommended by the IRC (Indian Roads Congress) standards. Road signs play a vital role in conveying essential safety information to motorists. No aspect of a sign's design, position or orientation is to be left to the creative interpretation of authorities! As road signs become consistent, motorists become familiar with them. We can then expect compliance to improve and enforcement to thererfore become easier.

Signage saves lives! Just putting up a road sign is not enough. They need to be strategically positioned, giving drivers the time to react and make smart decisions.  For example, a 'PEDESTRIAN CROSSING' sign should be well ahead of the actual crossing. This early warning will give motorists sufficient time to slow down and ensure pedestrian safety. Responsible authorities must act to ensure signs are visible and road users safe.
