University of Adelaide & Utrecht University scientists found in a review of 965 studies that the oxygen level in rivers is decreasing due to higher temperatures. Droughts & heatwaves further worsen salinity & pollutants, causing significant environmental concerns.

Two-wheelers remain one of the largest and most vulnerable road user groups. In spite of stronger legislation on road safety & implementation of measures like higher penalties, the number of two-wheeler rider fatalities has increased - 74,897 fatalities in 2022 alone. If you ride a two-wheeler, take extra care - speeding, not wearing a helmet etc can quickly turn fatal.

As a signatory to the Brasilia Declaration on Road Safety, #India set itself the ambitious target of halving road traffic deaths by 2025. In spite of laudable efforts, the Government of India's 2022 data paints a dismal picture. Road traffic deaths are rising with pedestrians, cyclists, & two-wheeler riders being the most vulnerable groups. It is time that everyone - governments & citizens - reflect on what went wrong & resolve to do better as we go into 2024.
