Efficacy of single-use plastic ban in Chennai

A CAG study to assess the status of the single-use plastic ban, two years after it came into force. The study looked at f&b outlets, fruit and vegetable markets and shops across Chennai to document the prevalence of single-use plastic. The study found that single-use plastic continues to be abundant across sectors.

Buckled up? A report on the assessment of helmet and seat belt law compliance in Chennai.

A study by CAG to analyse compliance with helmet and seatbelt rules in Chennai city. It was found that since its 2017 study, more two-wheeler riders and car drivers were complying with the law. However, pillion and passenger compliance is non-existent.

Making Electricity Bills Consumer Friendly - A Tamil Nadu Case Study

CAG, in partnership with Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW), and supported by Shakti Sustainable Energy Foundation has conducted a study on using the electricity bill as an enabling mechanism to improve information disclosure and promote greater public participation in the electricity sector. This Tamil Nadu Case Study captures consumers’ perception of electricity bill formats, awareness of bill elements and their expectations from a model bill, and in-turn recommends redesigning of Tamil Nadu’s electricity bill format based on consumer feedback

A study on enhancing consumer participation in electricity regulatory decision making

This study attempts to capture consumers' perspectives on their electricity issues and their own suggestions to solve these by framing/revising regulatory provisions for the same. Relevant electricity regulations in Tamil Nadu were mapped in line with issues highlighted by consumers and checked for gaps, if any. Further, new regulatory provisions are proposed as a means to bridging identified gaps. In summary, our findings suggest that there is adequate scope to pursue revisions in the regulations based on consumers’ perspectives.
