Today, we're looking at the last two rights in our series '#ConsumerRights'. As a #consumer, you have the right to seek redressal for your consumer grievances. Even small grievances should be addressed, as all these add up to creating a safe consumer ecosystem. The final right is as much a #responsibility as it is a right - to stay educated & informed at all times on your rights as a consumer. #BeAware
Competitive markets are better for #consumers - there is more choice at better prices. Should there be a monopoly on a particular service (for example the electricity services provided by #TANGEDCO), the consumer is still assured of high quality services at fair prices through laws & regulations. Consumer groups like CAG give consumers a voice - again, an undeniable right that you have as a consumer. #ConsumerRights #Awareness

A CAG study in 5 cities in Tamil Nadu on compliance of plastic packaging used for food products with recycling labelling as required by BIS. The study also seeks to understand if the information provided is accessible and useful to consumers through a perception survey. The study found that recycling labels rarely provide all the information required as per law and that most of them are hard to locate, read, and understand. Consumers cannot make an informed choice unless a standard labelling mechanism is set up that is focussed on providing information in an appropriate manner.
Plastics are now entwined into our daily lives and this has been happening in a marked manner over the last few decades. The excessive use of plastics combined with poor management and disposal practices are a major contributor to the global pollution crisis that we are facing today. It is time that we all came together to discuss the issues and threats caused by plastics and identified ways to address them.
